Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is on a day trip to upper and lower Mustang with a team comprising of his political advisor Raghuji Pant, forest minister Deepak Bohara, CPN (UML) leaders Amrit Bohara, Pradip Nepal, Shreemaya Thakali and secretary of National Nature Conservation Trust Juddha Gurung, Saturday.
PM Nepal and his team reached Jomsom on a Nepal Army helicopter this morning. PM Nepal will also offer prayers at the Muktinath temple.
According to the PM’s press advisor Bishnu Rijal, PM Nepal will observe the activities of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) and hold interactions on the impacts of climate change in the Himalayan region with representatives of civil society, NGOs and government officers in Mustang.
He will also take stock of the security situation, particularly on activities related to Tibetans, and direct the security officers and government officers based in district headquarter Jomsom to curb movement and activities of Tibetans, reports say.
PM Nepal and his team will also observe the newly established base of Armed Police Force for border security along Nepal-China border in Lomanthang. Home minister Bhim Rawal had also visited the APF base a few weeks ago.
Nepal has adopted more stringent measures to prevent movement of Tibetan refugees across Nepal-China border. It has decided to set up APF bases in more than a dozen districts.
Last week, Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood had visited upper Mustang. Although the embassy communiqué said the ambassador visited Mustang to observe the progress on India funded projects, reports say Sood was there to observe the situation of the Nepal-China border first hand.
