Seven lawmakers from Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) have withdrawn their support to the government over its position on the Vice President’s oath. Organising a press conference in the capital Saturday evening, the MJF-D lawmakers also urged their party and other Madhesi parties to pull out of the government.

Political parties have agreed to rehabilitate Maoist ex-fighters into civilian life or integrate them into the national army within six months. Some 19,000 Maoist former combatants are currently living in UN-supervised camps throughout the country.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Nilambar Acharya has been elected chairperson of the Constitutional Committee (CC) Friday. Acharya was elected to the post securing 29 votes, defeating Maoist candidate Narayan Kaji Shrestha. 21 CC members voted in favour of Shrestha.
